Karen Crow joined The Commonwealth Fund in September 2011 as a program assistant in the Patient-Centered Coordinated Care program. In this role, Ms. Crow supports and provides daily support for the Patient-Centered Coordinated Care Program. She manages all aspects of the grant process and conducts background research related to the program. Ms. Crow graduated from Vanderbilt University in 2009 with a B.A., cum laude. She was a double major in Spanish and Medicine, Health, and Society. After college, she held a Fulbright scholarship in Maturin, Venezuela where from September 2009 to July 2010 she taught reading, writing, English conversation, literature, and theatre to 200 underprivileged students. She also taught an eight-week intensive English course to 40 medical doctors, shadowed physicians, and interviewed patients in the local public health system. Ms. Crow spent her past year as a program leader for a HealthCorps Program at the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center, which is a clinic participating in the Qualis Safety Net Medical Home Initiative. While at the health center, she helped to develop, implement, and design an evaluation of a new childhood obesity program. She also worked closely with the underserved and immigrant families, providing nutrition education and facilitating after-school physical activity programs.
