Previous Fund work has documented high rates of uninsured Hispanic people, even after controlling for work status and income. To determine reasons behind this discrepancy, this project will analyze national databases and conduct focus groups among uninsured Hispanic people. The analysis and focus groups will explore the extent to which underlying job characteristics are a key factor in low insurance rates, and also whether Hispanics view health insurance differently than other ethnic groups or experience unique barriers to insurance coverage. Results will inform public and private policy initiatives to improve coverage and access to health care among Hispanic adults and their children.
