Despite passage of major nursing home reform legislation in 1987, serious quality-of-care problems persist in many of the nation's 17,000 nursing homes. This Picker Program Grant will evaluate the effectiveness of the Wellspring Program, an innovative new approach that has shown promise in improving care in member facilities. The program could serve as a model for improving care for the institutionalized elderly.
