Mobilizing sustained support for health care improvement will require greater awareness among policymakers and the general public about quality problems and what has been, and can be done, to correct them. Currently, credible information on health care quality is hard to find and often too technical for nonexperts. This project will fill that need by developing a chartbook describing the current state of U.S. health care. Through use of simple, clear graphics and explanatory text, project staff will pull together the latest data obtained from key performance measures to create a single resource on quality. With wide dissemination, this product could promote a common understanding of how quality problems manifest themselves, and inform a range of efforts to address them. If reader feedback indicates sufficient interest, project staff will make recommendations for production of a second edition of the chartbook.
