Young children who live in poverty, cope with stressful family circumstances, and receive inadequate medical care are at risk for serious health and developmental problems. Now that science has established the importance of life's early years to a child's long-term growth and development, the pediatric community has the opportunity to translate the interdisciplinary science of early childhood development into the care and nurturing of young children. Using the Healthy Steps evaluation data, this grant will support a series of analyses and publications to inform policy and practice about how well a system of pediatric care can promote health and development for vulnerable children.
