The Fund's fifth annual International Symposium on Health Care Policy will focus on reconciling rising health care costs and getting value for money. In bringing together leading policymakers and researchers from Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States, the symposium will draw the attention of U.S. policymakers to other nations' approaches to: controlling pharmaceutical costs and ensuring access, aligning financial incentives to encourage quality, using evidence-based practices and information technology to get value for money, and determining cost and quality trade-offs to set priorities. Presenters will highlight innovative policies and health care delivery models that support a business case for quality in health care. The May/June 2003 international issue of Health Affairs will feature symposium proceedings.
