The 2005 International Health Policy Survey, the eighth in an annual series of surveys commissioned by the Fund, will assess health care system performance and responsiveness from the perspective of the consumer. Conducted in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States, the survey will explore the public's views of how well their health care system is performing on key measures of patient-centeredness: round-the-clock care, emergency care, patient choice, medical errors, doctor-patient communication, patient involvement in decision-making, waiting times, coordination of care, addressing health literacy, and access to prescription drugs. The survey findings will be released at the Fund's 2005 International Symposium to highlight the impact of different health care delivery systems. The results should generate substantial interest among health ministers, policymakers, researchers, and the media. Project staff will submit a paper discussing survey results to Health Affairs for Web publication, and the Fund will publish the findings as part of its series of international issue briefs.
