Opportunities exist for the nation to achieve savings in total health care expenditures. These include: more efficient insurance arrangements, better integration of health care delivery systems, broad diffusion of information technology, and expanded use of financial incentives for providing cost-effective, high-quality care. To inform development of national policies aimed at higher health system performance, the project team, working with Fund staff, will identify options for short- and long-term savings, model their potential impact, and identify opportunities to improve health system performance. The Commission on a High Performance Health System will provide oversight for the study.
