Overview

Policymakers are beginning to use international data to compare the performance of their own health care system with the performance of health care systems in other countries. Two international agencies, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the World Health Organization (WHO), have taken the lead in preparing data for conducting these international comparisons. In this chartbook, we present data from the OECD and the WHO to compare the performance of the health care systems in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Whenever possible, we also present the value for the median OECD country.
