Richard Antonelli

Medical Director, Children's Hospital Boston Integrated Care Organization

Richard Antonelli is medical director of the Children’s Hospital Boston Integrated Care Organization and the interim associate medical director for quality of the Physicians’ Organization at Children’s Hospital Boston. He is a member of the Division of General Pediatrics at Children’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School. He was formerly associate professor of Pediatrics and Psychiatry and head of the Division of Academic General Pediatrics at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and the chief of the Division of Primary Care at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. His clinical work in general pediatrics has focused on providing comprehensive, family-centered care for all children and youth, but especially for those with special health care needs. Dr. Antonelli has a particular interest in developing systems of care for youth with special health care needs who are making the transition from pediatric to adult systems of care. In addition to serving as medical home advisor for the Healthy and Ready to Work National Resource Center, he has served as faculty for the Institute for Family-Centered Care and for the National Initiative for Children’s Healthcare Quality. He has worked with national and state-level leadership across the country and in Canada advising on health system quality improvement. He has published data about the outcomes, efficacy, and cost of care coordination services for children and youth with special health care needs and their families in primary care settings. Dr. Antonelli’s team is extending this work by measuring what families and nonphysician care coordinators do to support care coordination. He can be e-mailed at [email protected].
