Mary Catherine Beach, is assistant professor of medicine and health, behavior and Society at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and Bloomberg School of Public Health. She received her medical degree from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and her master's degree in public health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She also completed post-doctoral training in general internal medicine and the Greenwall Fellowship in bioethics and health policy at Johns Hopkins. Dr. Beach is the recipient of a Robert Wood Johnson Generalist Physician Faculty Scholar Award and a Mentored Clinical Scientist Development Award to study patient-centeredness in vulnerable populations from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. Her research has focused on patient and physician factors that affect quality of care and patient outcomes. She is currently conducting research on cultural competence, racial and ethnic disparities in health care, and patient–physician communication, with a focus on the care of patients with HIV infection and sickle cell disease.
