Laurie E. Felland, M.S., is a senior health researcher and director of qualitative research at the Center for Studying Health System Change (HSC) in Washington, D.C. With a primary interest in low-income people’s access to health care, Felland’s research has focused on the capacity and financial viability of safety-net hospitals and community health centers, issues in Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and programs for uninsured people. She directs HSC’s large qualitative research projects to track the financing, organization, and delivery of health care in local markets, including a community tracking study of six California markets and research on local commercial and Medicaid insurance markets and their preparations for health reform. Felland earned a master’s degree in health policy and management from the Harvard School of Public Health. She can be emailed at [email protected].
