Katrina Gipson, M.D., M.P.H. joined the Commonwealth Fund in January 2018 as a visiting intern with the Delivery System Reform Program. Her work focuses on supporting the Vulnerable Populations portfolio in generating resources relevant to improving health care delivery for low-income populations. Dr. Gipson is an Emergency Medicine Physician and Health Policy Fellow at The George Washington University in Washington D.C. Her policy interests include patient advocacy, exploring how disenfranchised populations utilize emergency medicine care, and improving clinicians’ abilities to address how the SDOH affect clinical outcomes. Dr. Gipson has served on The Hill as a Health Policy Fellow for Congressman Raul Ruiz and Senator Richard Blumenthal. She has been active in professional organizations such as the American Academy of Emergency Physicians and the American College of Emergency Physicians working on issues pertaining to patient advocacy and workplace diversity. Dr. Gipson received her B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Yale University and an M.P.H. from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She received her M.D. from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH and completed her Emergency Medicine Residency training at University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland, OH.
