Since 1985, Rosalie A. Kane, PhD has been a professor in the division of health policy and management of the School of Public Health at the University of Minnesota, where she also serves on the graduate faculties of the School of Social Work, the Center for Bioethics, and the Center on Aging. Prior to that, she was a senior social scientist at The Rand Corporation and a faculty member at UCLA School of Social Work and University of Utah School of Social Work. She has an extensive record of leadership in research, policy analysis, technical assistance and policy analysis on aging, disability, and long-term care, and on social work and psychosocial well-being in health settings. She is the author or a coauthor of more than a dozen books and hundreds of journal articles and chapters, and is past editor-in-chief of both Health and Social Work, and of The Gerontologist. She is the recipient of the Gerontological Society of America's Kent Award, and she served on three Institute of Medicine Committees, including the Committee on Regulation of Nursing Homes, which was the precursor to the 1987 Nursing Home Reform Act. Dr. Kane's research is of national scope, and often large-scale. Topics include nursing homes, home care, assisted living, care management, assessment, and quality assurance.
