David R. Nerenz is director of the Institute of Health Care Studies at Michigan State University and professor in the College of Human Medicine at MSU. His research interests include quality of care measurement, racial and ethnic disparities in quality of care, and use of data for quality improvement. He is the project director/principal investigator for the report card project described in this paper. He earned his doctorate at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
