Bio at the time of fellowship: Lauren L. Quaintance, a 2000–2001 New Zealand Harkness Fellow, is a senior writer for the national current affairs magazine North & South. Quaintance has won numerous awards for her in-depth features on politics, health and race relations in her four years with the magazine, including the top magazine feature writing prize at New Zealand's Qantas Media Awards in 2000 and 2001. As the youngest New Zealander selected for a prestigious three month Chevening Fellowship at Oxford University in 1999, Quaintance examined the impact of the Internet on the media.
