National Evaluation of the Local Initiatives of the Healthy Steps for Young Children Program, 1998-2000

Results from the national evaluation of the Healthy Steps program currently under way are critical to determining whether this pioneering approach to pediatric care can be sustained and eventually replicated nationwide. For the third year, the Johns Hopkins University team will gauge the program's success in reorienting pediatric practice to emphasize early child development, increasing parents' knowledge of nurturing and child development, and promoting parental practices that improve the health and safety of children. In addition, cost data will continue to be collected for the ongoing economic evaluation of the Healthy Steps initiative. Cofunding for this project will be provided by a majority of the national evaluation sites.
