Improving the Delivery of Effective Care to Minorities, Phase One

×

Although numerous studies have documented the underutilization of diagnostic tests and certain medical and surgical procedures within minority populations, the underlying reasons are not well understood. This three-phase project will investigate the 'epidemiology of underuse' and test interventions to improve delivery of care to minority patients. In the first phase, the project team will identify factors that contribute to underuse of medical services for four major conditions: hypertension, recurrent stroke, breast cancer, and premature birth. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality will provide cofunding for all phases.
