National Evaluation of the Local Initiatives of the Healthy Steps for Young Children Program, 1999–2000

A five-year national evaluation of 15 Healthy Steps sites is under way to determine whether this approach to pediatric care improves child health and development and parental and pediatric clinician knowledge, attitudes, practices, and satisfaction. This evaluation will also measure program costs and compare them with outcomes. A process evaluation will examine the implementation process and the extent to which services are consistent with the program plan and can be replicated. This grant will provide support for the fourth phase of the evaluation, which will include telephone interviews with parents, key informant interviews, Healthy Steps Specialist interviews, self-administered provider surveys, and medical records reviews.
