Harkness Fellowships in Health Care Policy, 2002–03

Experience with the program's first three classes of Harkness Fellows in Health Care Policy has demonstrated the value of international exchange to the fellows' development and to the Fund's overall work in health care. As a means of broadening the fellows' exposure to other health care systems, Harkness Fellows will participate in a three-day Canadian health policy briefing to be held in Ottawa and Montreal in the spring. In addition to the participation of two Kaiser Media Fellows in Health in the Harkness fellowship seminars, two Canadian associate fellows will also be included, adding a valuable perspective to the discussion. To further disseminate the work of the Harkness Fellows, publication of their findings as part of a Fund series of international issue briefs will highlight policy insights and lessons for U.S. and their home country policymakers. Through selection, placement, and support of a fifth class of Harkness Fellows, the Fund will continue to develop promising junior policy researchers and practitioners from Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.
