Assessing the Financial Status of Academic Health Centers and the Health of Their Missions, Phase Two

×

Many of our nation's academic health centers continue to struggle in the face of reduced revenues, rising costs, and intense competition. As a follow-up to last year's project, analysts at the Lewin Group will continue to evaluate the financial health of these institutions and their ability to fulfill their traditional missions of medical education, research, specialty care, and care for the poor. Project staff will analyze the impact of expected changes in national payment policy regarding teaching hospitals, projecting costs and revenues through 2006 in order to help policymakers and hospital leaders identify potential areas of vulnerability. Finally, Lewin analysts will estimate the financial impact of the Task Force on Academic Health Centers' final recommendations. This work will assist the Task Force, hospital executives, and policymakers in their efforts to restore stability to academic health centers.
