National Evaluation of the Local Initiatives of the Healthy Steps for Young Children

The six-year national evaluation of the Healthy Steps for Young Children Program is nearing completion. One of its primary goals has been to gauge the program's success in reorienting pediatric practice to emphasize child development, enriching parents' knowledge about their child's overall growth, and promoting effective parenting. Another component of the evaluation is assessing the cost-effectiveness of the Healthy Steps approach—critical for achieving broader implementation. This grant will support the sixth year of the evaluation, during which project staff will finish collecting and analyzing data and prepare a comprehensive report detailing results. The evaluation findings will contribute significantly to knowledge about the role developmental services can play in promoting children's health and cognitive and emotional development.
