Building State Medicaid Programs' Capacity to Provide Child Health and Developmental Services, Phase Three

×

Since last March, the Fund's Assuring Better Child Health and Development (ABCD) program has been implementing an ambitious strategy to help state Medicaid agencies promote delivery of developmental services for low-income children. The four states selected for the initiative-North Carolina, Utah, Vermont, and Washington-are currently developing pediatric training and parent education materials, and, in some cases, testing new child health services. The National Academy for State Health Policy (NASHP) has already established a consortium to share information and ideas and is currently addressing the states' needs for technical assistance. In the coming year, NASHP will continue to help the states manage their projects, foster innovation and collaboration, coordinate technical expertise, and disseminate results nationally. The ultimate goal of the ABCD initiative is the creation of models to encourage other states to strengthen developmental services for all young children in need.
