Promoting Culturally Competent Long-Term Care

×

As America's elderly population continues to grow in size and diversity, consideration of racial and cultural differences will become increasingly important in the provision of high-quality long-term care services. This Picker Program Grant will develop best practice guidelines for culturally appropriate care. Project staff will perform a literature search, conduct focus groups with families of nursing home residents and with nursing home staff, and survey 500 long-term care providers in 10 states to learn about successful practices and training programs. If this project proceeds satisfactorily, additional work to develop and disseminate a manual and training program for long-term care providers could be funded.
