Harkness Fellowships in Health Care Policy, 2003-04

Experience with the program's first four classes of Harkness Fellows in Health Care Policy has demonstrated the value of international exchange to the fellows' development and to the Fund's overall work in health care. Based on the success of the Canadian seminar piloted in 2001, the next class of Harkness Fellows will participate in Canadian health policy briefings in Ottawa and Montreal as a means of broadening their exposure to other health care systems. In addition, the program will be formally expanded to include two Canadian Associates in the Harkness fellowship seminars throughout the year, adding a valuable perspective to discussions. To reinforce the growing network of health policy alumni, a policy seminar featuring former Harkness Fellows will be arranged in each country to coincide with the Harkness selection committee meetings and Fund staff visits. Through selection, placement, and support of a sixth class of Harkness Fellows, the Fund will continue to develop promising junior policy researchers and practitioners from Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.
