Evaluation of Child Development Services Breakthrough Series Collaborative

×

Addressing developmental and behavioral concerns is essential to good pediatric primary care. What pediatric experts consider to be high-quality care, however, is often not reflected in pediatric practice. For this project, a team at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will test and refine a curriculum it developed for physicians and office staff to provide infants and toddlers with comprehensive developmental services. Project staff will establish a Breakthrough Series collaborative of 15 pediatric practices in Vermont to use the curriculum tools and materials, implement innovations in their practices, and achieve improvements in the quality of child development services they provide. A companion collaborative of 25 pediatric practices in Los Angeles will test the same set of materials, pending approval from the California Proposition 10 Commission. These partnerships between physician practices and state public health agencies will yield useful models for other agencies seeking to improve pediatric care. This project is contingent on funding from the California Proposition 10 Commission.
