Refinement of the Wellspring Model and Development of a Strategic Plan for Replication and Sustainability

The Fund is interested in encouraging widespread adoption of the Wellspring model as a way for nursing facilities to deliver high-quality care at the lowest possible cost. This Picker Program Grant will enable Wellspring Innovative Solutions, Inc., to participate in the preparation of the model for adoption and develop a strategic plan for disseminating, replicating, and sustaining the model long term. Project staff will focus their activities on: 1) testing and refining a set of improved staff training modules and a new data collection system; 2) developing a set of business tools that will be used to help persuade nursing home administrators and board members to join a Wellspring alliance; and 3) developing outreach, business, and communications plans to sustain the Wellspring approach. Ultimately, the goal will be to create an infrastructure that allows Wellspring's leaders to promote the model among long-term care providers, consumer groups, and federal and state policy and regulatory officials, while developing the capacity of the original Wellspring facilities to serve as peer mentors.
