Insurance Trends and Policy Options: Analysis and Technical Assistance for the Task Force on the Future of Health Insurance

The Commonwealth Fund Task Force on the Future of Health Insurance is exploring ways to extend health insurance coverage to uninsured working Americans and their families. This core grant to Columbia University funds analysis of policy options as well as data and technical assistance for Task Force staff and other grantees. In the past year, the Columbia team led by Sherry Glied has examined issues related to health insurance quality and access to coverage for low-income working families, analyzed the potential of tax credit policy options, and weighed the potential of insurance expansions to improve health care. In the year ahead, Glied and her team will continue to evaluate new state and federal policy options to expand insurance coverage, and they will prepare several analyses of emerging issues concerning the low-wage workforce and small businesses. Information produced through these activities will be of value to local, state, and congressional leaders as they consider new coverage programs and policies.
