International Working Group on Quality Indicators

The International Working Group on Quality Indicators, first convened by the Fund in March 1999, is dedicated to improving the measures available for cross-national comparisons of health care quality. To date, the working group has focused on developing recommendations for a minimum set of quality indicators to be collected in the five core countries of the Fund's International Program-Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Participation in the meetings by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) has promoted synergy between the working group's efforts and WHO and OECD strategies for expanding the data on quality collected by industrialized countries. Two additional meetings will be held in April and July 2002 to address operational issues related to data collection and implementation in the five countries, and to produce a final report.
