Wellspring Innovative Solutions: Replicating the Model

The Wellspring model, an ongoing quality improvement collaborative among alliances of nursing homes, has demonstrated its ability to improve performance without raising costs. In November 2003, the Board approved a grant to Wellspring Innovative Solutions (WIS)-established to disseminate the model-to continue servicing current alliances, add a new alliance, and attract an able leader for the organization. WIS has met these programmatic milestones while satisfactorily managing its budget. However, as a fledgling nonprofit, WIS has faced severe limitations in raising the capital necessary to support expansion. A Picker program-related investment is therefore requested to provide a line of credit to stabilize WIS's cash flow until it attains its goal of 20 or more alliances of about 10 homes each. This level of activity will permit WIS to function as a financially independent, nonprofit business providing services to nursing homes that are seeking to improve quality. http://www.wellspringis.org/
