Preparing Pediatric Nurse Practitioners to Assess, Manage, and Prevent Current Morbidities of Childhood

Improving the quality of preventive and developmental services for children requires a team effort within practice settings. Physicians often look to nursing staff, especially pediatric nurse practitioners (PNPs), to provide important aspects of well child care. Medical educators, however, are concerned that graduating PNPs are not up to the task: they see a need to greatly improve the content and quality of PNP training. This project will actively engage leaders in PNP education in the development, implementation, and evaluation of a new prevention curriculum for child development and behavior. In so doing, it will draw on clinical tools and curricular materials whose development was supported by the Fund.
