Rethinking Well Child Care

Traditionally, preventive care for children has been driven by concerns about preventing infectious disease and ensuring adequate nutrition. Today, however, concerns about children's development and behavior are foremost in parents' minds. This project will develop a new schedule and content for well-child care that responds to the developmental needs and challenges faced by children and families. The research team will solicit input from a broad group of stakeholders, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, parents, health care providers, public and private health care programs, public agencies, and professional organizations. Upon completion of the project, the Fund will likely be approached to support the pilot-testing of this new approach to well child care.
