Several features make WhyNotTheBest.org, the Commonwealth Fund’s performance benchmarking and improvement tool, unique: the Web site’s rich benchmarking options, the availability of all-payer performance data for 15 states, and performance trends spanning six years for some measures. In 2012, a performance map was launched to profile variation on various measures of quality at the county, regional, and state levels and to identify the geographic location of selected national reform initiatives. In 2013, the WhyNotTheBest.org team will focus on forging new partnerships and growing its audience of quality improvement professionals, researchers, and organizations whose mission is to promote transparency about quality of care. IPRO will partner with Fund staff to spread the tool and engage users through social networks and prominent professional blogs. The project team also will continue to refine regional maps of performance and track the proliferation of accountable care organizations and medical homes.
