The 17th annual International Symposium on Health Care Policy will have a two-part focus: complex, high-cost patients, and the international evidence underpinning outstanding health system performance. Focusing on high-income countries, the program will highlight for policymakers the payment mechanisms and delivery system strategies that appear to produce the best health outcomes and lowest costs. Specific topics will include: care delivery models and financial incentives for managing high-needs patients; strategies for reducing hospital admissions and readmissions; integration of health and social services; and end-of-life care. Participants will also learn about “frugal innovations” being pursued in the developing world. The Commonwealth Fund and the Alliance for Health Reform will cosponsor a briefing on the symposium for Capitol Hill audiences.
