Examining the Feasibility of a New Program to Stimulate Cross-National Learning to Support U.S. Health Care System Innovation, Phase 1

×

This project will test the feasibility of a program to identify promising approaches to health care delivery from abroad that might be adopted in the United States to improve quality, reduce costs, and increase value. The Commonwealth Fund, in collaboration with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), will take steps to establish an international program for health care system innovation designed to: 1) scan the globe for solutions to problems also identified in the U.S. health care system; 2) evaluate the feasibility and transferability of these innovations; and 3) where the evidence is sound, develop a pathway for U.S. adoption of best practices. To achieve this goal, an IHI Innovators Network, composed of leaders in U.S. health care delivery, will identify high-priority problems, assess possible solutions from around the world, and pilot the most promising models. This first phase will set up the infrastructure for the program and assess its feasibility.
