Promoting a High Performance Health System Through Federal–State Convening, Year 3

The series of Commonwealth Fund–supported meetings that the National Academy for State Health Policy (NASHP) has conducted for federal and state policymakers since 2013 allows for meaningful discussion of health policy issues most relevant to these officials. Last year, state policymakers heard about approaches to health reform their peers are pursuing and learned about new federal initiatives and opportunities. State officials also used the forums to request information and support from federal agencies and discuss how to better align state and federal initiatives. Although last year’s events were well received, NASHP seeks to enhance participants’ experience and strengthen the meetings’ impact by developing more actionable agendas, shortening the issue briefs developed as background for the discussions, and identifying mechanisms for disseminating lessons to a wider policymaker audience.
