Developing Resources to Help Spread and Scale Promising Programs That Improve Patient Care

Unprecedented innovation is taking place at all levels of the health care system. Yet despite compelling results achieved by several initiatives, few have been taken to scale. To address known barriers to sustainability and scale, we need evidence-based criteria for when a model is ready for spread, what a receptor site must have in place prior to adoption, and what market or policy features are needed for lasting success. This project presents an opportunity to work closely with Blue Shield of California Foundation, a long-standing and important foundation partner, to develop resources that will support entrepreneurs, health systems, payers, and others in scaling and spreading models that improve patient experience, reduce costs, and improve health outcomes. The project will develop detailed, evidence-based criteria for determining: 1) whether a model is ready for replication; 2) whether a receptor site is ready to adopt the promising model; and 3) whether local market conditions will support model adoption.
