The Commonwealth Fund 2017 Bipartisan Congressional Retreat and Member Breakfasts

With the Affordable Care Act entering its seventh year, the U.S. health care system continues to evolve rapidly. We have seen substantial gains in coverage and improvements in affordability, but there remain concerns over marketplace plan premiums, cost-sharing, provider network design, and, increasingly, prescription drug costs. As members of Congress and their staffs prioritize areas for improvement and develop new policies, they would benefit from access to experts involved in and studying the process of health reform—via the ACA and otherwise. The Commonwealth Fund’s annual bipartisan congressional retreat and breakfast meetings provide such access, as well as the opportunity for candid, off-the-record discussion. The Alliance for Health Reform will conduct a bipartisan congressional health policy conference and two breakfast meetings for members of Congress on timely health policy topics. In addition, the Alliance will hold meetings on Capitol Hill with members and key staff to build interest in the conference and gather ideas for the retreat and breakfast programs. This project specifically targets members of Congress and provides opportunities for them to hear from leading experts in health policy.
