Cristine Russell

Senior Fellow, Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, Harvard Kennedy School of Government

Cristine Russell is an award-winning freelance journalist who has covered science, medicine, and health for more than three decades. She is currently a senior fellow at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government and is president of the Council for the Advancement of Science Writing. Previously, she was a national medical/science reporter for the Washington Post and Washington Star and a panelist on the long-running PBS program "Washington Week in Review." She was a spring 2006 Fellow at Harvard's Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics and Public Policy, looking at how to improve news media coverage of controversial science and medical issues. A former member of the Commonwealth Fund Commission on Women's Health, Ms. Russell is currently a member of the Department of Health and Human Services' Bright Futures for Women's Health and Wellness Steering Committee. Ms. Russell is also a past president of the National Association of Science Writers and serves on the boards of the University of Southern California's Annenberg School for Communication, the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, and Mills College. Ms. Russell is vice chair of the Fund's Board and chairs its Governance and Nominating Committee.
