Jamel Starks joined The Commonwealth Fund in May 2017 as the assistant dining room manager. On a daily basis, he assists the dining room manager in preparing and serving lunch to the staff. He also has primary responsibility for setting up food and beverages for meetings, providing wait service, and restocking kitchenettes and restrooms, among other duties. Jamel spent 2014 to 2016 obtaining his Culinary Arts Certification and worked as a line cook and in private catering since that time. Prior to that, he served in the U.S. Army from 2008-2012, first as a motor transportation operator at Camp Humphreys in South Korea where he managed maintenance and inventory control for vehicle parts, equipment, and supplies, and then as an automated logistics specialist in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, where he was responsible for maintaining vehicle standards, assisting in logistical support, and supporting up to 500 personnel.
