Susanne A. Stoiber is the Principal of Stoiber Health Policy, LLC. and a senior health policy consultant to the Fund, supporting the work of its Commission on a High Performance Health System. Ms. Stoiber served since 1975 in a series of senior positions in the National Academies and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. In 1998 she was named Executive Director and chief operating officer of the Institute of Medicine, a position she held until mid-2007. Her responsibilities included management of the IOM program operations, and support of the Institute's governance and membership functions. In the Department of Health and Human Services, Susanne held a number of senior positions in the Office of the Secretary and at the National Institutes of Health. She was three times appointed as a Deputy Assistant Secretary for Health—Planning and Evaluation (1979 and 1995); Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (1996); and as a Deputy Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation, Program Systems (1997). Accomplishments included: coordination of Healthy People 2010—the nation's prevention agenda; oversight of the Department's evaluation program and GPRA-related strategic planning. She received her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Public Administration degrees from the University of Colorado, and a Master of Science degree from the London School of Economics.
