Recent Publications from Harkness Fellows

Philip J. Van der Wees, Ph.D., a 2011–12 Commonwealth Fund Harkness Fellow in Health Care Policy and Practice, and Harvard University's John Ayanian, M.D., have published a new commentary in the New England Journal of Medicine, outlining the recently passed law in Massachusetts aimed at controlling health costs.

Sarah Derrett, Ph.D., a 2011–12 Commonwealth Fund Harkness Fellow in Health Care Policy and Practice, and Robin Gauld Ph.D., a 2008–09 Harkness Fellow, published a paper in the International Journal of Health Planning and Management, with Kim Cousins from the University of Otago on the system in New Zealand used to organize wait lists for elective procedures.

Ewout van Ginneken, Ph.D., a 2011–12 Commonwealth Fund Harkness Fellow in Health Care Policy and Practice, published a perspective piece in the New England Journal of Medicine, with his mentor from Harvard University, Katherine Swartz, Ph.D., discussing the lessons the U.S. can learn from insurance exchanges in the Netherlands and Switzerland.

Sara Kreindler, D.Phil., a 2010–11 Commonwealth Fund Harkness Fellow in Health Care Policy and Practice, published an article in the Milbank Quarterly, with her mentor from Dartmouth University, Elliott Fisher, M.D., M.P.H., examining how accountable care organizations will be implemented so that they best integrate into the current health care landscape.
