New Zealand to Improve Support for Vulnerable Children

The New Zealand health minister, along with the ministers for education and social development, has launched a new action plan to support vulnerable children. The plan will target four key areas: continuing to improve immunization rates, reducing the rate of rheumatic fever, increasing participation in early childhood education, and reducing the number of assaults on children. While admitting that the targets for the action plan are ambitious (including having 98 percent of children participating in early childhood education prior to starting school), the ministers all expressed how important the efforts at improving the lives of these children were to New Zealand.
