U.K. Looks at Digital Technologies to Supplement Care and Streamline Care Processes

Mobile phone applications and other digital technologies are being increasingly adopted across the U.K. NHS joined in last spring by sponsoring NHS's "hack day," a contest in which doctors and developers competed together to create technology to improve health care. The winning app is now available for download. The app is aimed at streamlining the process in which doctors share information about patients with other members of the health care team. It works by linking to electronic medical records and allowing doctors to create task lists and update patients' records. Other technologies are focused on offering new ways to tackle mental health problems through internet forums, smartphone applications, and video games.
