Recent Commonwealth Fund–Supported Articles

In recent studies, Commonwealth Fund–supported researchers explored:

  • Comparative effectiveness research through the example of vertebral fracture treatments (New England Journal of Medicine, April 14, 2011). The authors conclude that, while such research will not always yield definitive conclusions, it is a "very good investment for the federal government and U.S. taxpayers." Also see a recent blog post by The Commonwealth Fund's Anthony Shih, M.D., on the significance of this study and the promise of comparative effectiveness research.
  • The effect of pay-for-performance programs on the quality of chronic care management (BMJ, January 25, 2011). Based on a review of data for 470,725 patients with hypertension, researchers found no changes in treatment or outcomes after implementation of the payment incentives.
