Few Mobile Health Apps Useful

As reported in a Commonwealth Fund issue brief, fewer than half of more than 1,000 health care–related apps reviewed for a recent study appeared likely to be useful to patients with chronic illness. Authors Karandeep Singh, M.D., of the University of Michigan Medical School, David Bates, M.D., chief innovation officer at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and colleagues propose a framework to evaluate the potential of mobile health apps to engage patients and improve their care.
