Biography at time of Harkness Fellowship: Jason Sutherland, Ph.D., a 2012-13 Canadian Harkness Fellow in Health Care Policy and Practice, is an assistant professor in the centre for health services and policy research at the University of British Columbia, Canada. Sutherland also acts as a consultant to the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care in Toronto, and as an expert-in-residence with the British Columbia Ministry of Health. Prior to joining the faculty at the University of British Columbia, Sutherland was an assistant professor and director of data and analytic core at the center for health policy research at Dartmouth University. Sutherland has authored 35 peer-reviewed publications in journals such as Health Affairs, New England Journal of Medicine, Health Policy, and Journal of the American Medical Association. Sutherland received his Ph.D. in statistics from Simon Fraser University in Canada, and is currently an associate editor of Health Policy.

Current Project Abstract: Sutherland's Harkness project will look at the effectiveness of bundled payment projects and other payment reforms that are being piloted by The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation to reduce costs and improve care.
