Michelle Ries

Michelle G. Ries, M.P.H., is a former senior program associate for management and marketing for The Commonwealth Fund's International Program in Health Policy and Innovation. In this role, she managed international marketing for the Harkness Fellowships, coordinated the International Program's section of the Commonwealth Fund Web site, and had lead administrative responsibility for all IHP events, including the annual International Symposium and several annual Harkness Fellows events. Prior to joining The Fund in 2007, Ms. Ries completed the Health Research Training Program at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Office of Health Media and Marketing, where she managed the internal development of citywide health media campaigns on various health issues, including cardiovascular disease, childhood obesity, and adolescent mental health. Ms. Ries also worked with the institutional review board to design and conduct qualitative and quantitative research on the effectiveness of various media campaigns and health department program initiatives. While pursuing her master's degree, she worked as program assistant at The Liz Claiborne Foundation. Ms. Ries holds a bachelor of arts degree with honors in dramatic art and anthropology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a master's degree in public health from Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health.
