Karina Bhakta, M.P.H. Candidate, is the Commonwealth Fund’s former Intern for Research and Evaluation. She supports activities related to foundation evaluation, focusing on collecting and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data that helps highlight program accomplishments and assesses organizational effectiveness. Ms. Bhakta is currently working on achieving her M.P.H. from New York University, and received her B.A. from University of California, Berkeley with majors both in Media Studies and Integrative Biology. Prior to interning with the Commonwealth Fund, Karina worked as a Graduate Research Assistant at NYU Stern Center for Sustainable Business, where she researched the current state of New York City’s climate resilience for the Invest NYC SDG Initiative with special attention to damages from increased precipitation and heat. She was also an Advocacy and Public Policy Intern at the American Lung Association in Los Angeles, where she drafted grant deliverables and conducted community and policy research. In addition, Karina served as a Writing Intern at the Borgen Project and BORGEN Magazine, where she authored independently researched articles about global health, fundraised, and advocated for global poverty reduction and development to be part of U.S. foreign policy.
