Christopher Koller
Health Insurance Commissioner, State of Rhode Island

Christopher Koller became Rhode Island's first Health Insurance Commissioner in March 2005. The Office of the Health Insurance Commissioner is responsible for health insurance consumer protection, the financial solvency of Rhode Island's domestic health insurers, and the fair treatment of providers by insurers, as well as directing health insurers toward policies that improve the accessibility, affordability, and quality of Rhode Island's health care system. In this role, Mr. Koller coordinated the health policy agenda of the Administration of Governor Donald Carcieri.

Prior to his appointment as Health Insurance Commissioner, Mr. Koller was the CEO of Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island, a nationally recognized community health center-based Medicaid health plan. Koller is former chair of Rhode Island’s HMO Association and the founding Chair of the Association for Community Affiliated Plans, a national membership association of 17 Medicaid managed health plans. Mr. Koller has a bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College and master's degrees in Management and Religion from Yale University. He is an Adjunct Professor in the Program of Public Health at Brown Medical School.
